Addiction is Not Your Fault…
Addiction is a disease. According to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse:
“Addiction is a complex disease of the brain and body that involves compulsive use of one or more substances despite serious health and social consequences. Addiction disrupts regions of the brain that are responsible for reward, motivation, learning, judgment and memory. It damages various body systems as well as families, relationships, schools, workplaces and neighborhoods.”
The line, “that involves compulsive use of one or more substances despite serious health and social consequences” pretty much says it all. Who wakes up thinking like this: “I think I’ll do drugs today, in hopes of creating wreckage, and ruining the lives of my friends and family today”
It’s not intentional, because it’s a disease. Addicts aren’t trying to make other people’s lives miserable, they simply cannot help it in most cases. The desire to “use” is stronger than any virtue. After the drugs take over, it’s the drugs themselves making all the choices, not the person.
The people we meet at Nashville Recovery aren’t bad people, they’re good people trying to get well. They beat themselves up harder that anyone else ever could. They are ashamed, humiliated, and confused at why they cannot stop taking drugs. Sometimes, their guilt is overwhelming. It’s a horrible cycle, and one we treat using multiple medications and one-on-one therapy.
It’s this vicious cycle we addicts fall into that often requires treatment for this triad, Addiction, Depression and Anxiety. Nashville Recovery’s Certified Addiction Therapist Mike Racki, makes the diagnosis and prescribing for anxiety and depression possible. Together, with Dr. Emmett Wilkerson’s skills, Mike and Emmet provide the most thorough recovery solution available in the Metro Nashville Area.
Thanks to therapist Alexandra Mayes LPC/MHSP and Dr. Emmett Wilkerson’s training and credentials, Nashville Recovery is able to treat the whole myriad of issues associated with addiction like depression and anxiety. Many clinics legally can treat only for addiction, which is simply not enough for many addicts.
Treating for all three, Addiction, Anxiety and Depression is something that is not technically within the legal boundaries of most other addiction clinics. Mike is one of the many reasons Nashville Recovery is able to help so many people with long-term addiction issues. Being able to treat for anxiety and depression can be critical to long-lasting sobriety for many.
Despite addiction not being your fault, you DO have a choice since only YOU can take action against your addiction. If you’re willing to “try”, we have a solution that works. Willingness is the first step to recovery.
“After drugs take over, it’s the drugs themselves making all the choices, not the person.”
Nashville Recovery provides a solution for addiction that involves medicine, therapy, education, and even technology. This unique four-part system is available ONLY at Nashville Recovery.
1. Medicine – Suboxone stabilizes the physical aspects of addiction (Prevents withdrawals, virtually eliminates the chance of relapse) Other medications are used to treat depression and anxiety, on a per-patient basis.
2. One-on-One Therapy – Resolve both past and current triggers and events in life that accelerate addiction and addictive behavior. (Group therapy alone is not enough)
3. Education – Help people transition into a group recovery program, in addition to one-on-one therapy provided at the clinic.
4. Connectivity – Addiction often equates to isolation. Nashville Recovery supports a healthy community of lie-minded people who are interested in improving their lives!
